One of the most interesting parts of this career are fashion shows. I went into the first one I worked thinking this will be a breeze...guess what I was wrong, very wrong! There is so much more than just showing up and putting lipstick on a beautiful model. For weeks building up to this event your meeting with the designer, the manager, collaborating, creating a concept for this collection. And where you would never tell the people who make the clothes how to sew they like to tell you how to do your job. After weeks of back and forth, sketching, and trial looks you think ok I can relax. No my friend your not even close to the finish line. Now you need to build your team (because as much as you think your Superman you cants do 20 models on your own). AAnd finally the big day is here! Get ready strap in, try as you might to stagger the models call times they will all show up at the same time and want to be first. The 3-5 hours you have to get everything done is never enough. While your doing a graphic liner, she's getting dressed, her hairs getting styled, she's eating. The music starts and your still applying lipstick. After all this you think you are going to get to see what you sent down the runway, nope. All the runways I have been a part of I think I have only ever been out front for one. Weeks of prep, and hours of work and it's over in 20 minutes or less. And you ask yourself is this worth it? The answer is yes, it's so gratifying to hear folks compliment the work, see the photos, and know that your name will always be associated with that. It's your moment and you earned it.
